Pelvic Health Physiotherapy
What is Pelvic Health Physiotherapy?
Pelvic health physiotherapists have received specialized education in pelvic floor dysfunction and are trained to determine the state of the pelvic floor. For the core muscles to properly function, the pelvic floor has to be working optimally.
Pelvic floor dysfunction can occur for a number of reasons beyond pregnancy like long standing constipation, poor posture or any gynecological surgery. Symptoms can include a weak core, incontinence or frequent urination, pelvic pain, chronic hip or low back pain, consistently tight buttocks or inner thigh muscles, or any pain with intercourse.
The WOMB Pelvic Health Physiotherapists approach is founded on self-management support strategies to educate and draw women into the care process so they need treatment less or no longer. Our treatment is a marriage of the best research and clinical expertise, and the clients’ perspectives and wishes.
How can Pelvic Health Physio help me?
Fertility
Many conditions that cause pelvic pain, such as endometriosis, interstitial cystitis and pelvic congestion syndrome have also been connected to infertility. Our team uses a combination of manual therapies, neuro-modulation techniques and exercise prescription to optimize the health of the pelvic region for enhanced receptivity for conception.
Pregnancy
Our team assists women by treating common pelvic girdle pain in the pubic region, back and hip to maximize function and best prepare women for optimal birth and function post-birth. Research studies confirm that women who learn how to properly train their pelvic floors during pregnancy have shorter, less painful labors, less soft tissue damage and faster recoveries.
Postpartum
Through pelvic floor rehabilitation, our physiotherapy team ensures that the lingering causes of pelvic or back pain, bladder issues, connective tissue separation of their abdomen (diastasis) are all corrected for optimal health and function after baby.
Beyond
When women reach menopause the body, including the pelvis changes due to fluctuations in hormones, namely a reduction in estrogen. Lower levels of this hormone can result in some unpleasant symptoms.
