Our lack of good information and research on menopause is both shocking and disappointing given that we live in one of the most medically advanced countries in the world. Most of the information women have, they have researched themselves, learned from their peers and coworkers and if lucky, a little from their mothers. In many circles, conversations about changing women’s bodies are still taboo and silenced so women are left on their own to figure this transition out. Little information is being shared by medical professionals and the internet is a rabbit hole of conflicting data aimed mostly at the cosmetic aspects of menopause like weight gain and wrinkles designed to sell you some miracle cure to a “condition” of normal physiology. Menopause is not a condition nor is it a time in your life to be forced to accept pain and suffering as just “normal aging”. Terrible sleep, mood swings, urinary tract infections and the demise of your sex life might be common but they are not necessary parts of this chapter. You deserve better.

Menopause is not diagnosed by a blood test or measured by data. It is a series of body changes that will show themselves in many different ways throughout your lifetime. Some of these changes are welcome like the loss of the period and some are really unwelcome like hot flashes and insomnia. Naturopathic Doctor Pamela Thornton has been guiding women through this transition for over 25 years now. During this workshop, we will take a deep dive into these hormonal changes and learn tools to manage this process holistically and healthfully. We will discuss the current treatments being used to manage symptoms from antidepressants to bioidentical hormone replacement therapy and help you build a tool chest of resources to walk your journey through menopause feeling wise and empowered about your future. Come with your questions, come with your friends and leave feeling inspired to be a woman again.

Our Instructor

Dr. Pamela Thornton, B.Sc., ND.
Naturopathic Doctor

Pamela earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Guelph in human biology. She then graduated from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine's four-year Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine program in 1998. Pamela has served on the boards of both the Ontario and Canadian Associations of Naturopathic Doctors.

She completed her Therapeutic Prescribing exam in 2016 to add the controlled act of prescribing to her clinical tool box.  She followed this by becoming a Graduate of the University of Florida College of Pharmacy Essential Elements of Prescription Hormone Compounding.  The addition of bio-identical hormones has vastly expanded Pamela’s ability to untangle the complex endocrine web that so many women find themselves entangle in.

Pamela is an integrative practitioner and passionate leader in the field of women’s hormonal health issues and fertility.  She does many public lectures on topics of integrative medicine and alternative approaches to health. With over 21-years of clinical experience, Pamela believes that what it takes to be well is not merely the absence of disease but rather a balance of physical, emotional and spiritual health.  As a result, she has also continued her wellness journey becoming a HeartMath certified practitioner and a Hoffman Process International graduate.

As a mother of three children, Pamela is keenly interested in the health and wellness of women and children and our planet and in building community resources to make education and collaboration available to everyone who seeks it.

Pamela is known for her keen listening skills and her ability to see the whole picture when creating a wellness plan.  Born and raised in Woodstock, she is delighted to be joining Tiffany and Ashley in bringing the WOMB to our community.
